Most people love to eat, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they love food. Nick, one of my best friends, for example refuses to eat anything green. He also hates most fruit and refuses to cook. His diet consists of pre cooked, microwave friend ready meals and/or meat, however his diet brings him great joy and if he gets hungry, I’ve never met someone who can throw a tantrum like him. This is a perfect example of someone who loves to eat. I love food, there is very little food I don’t like to eat and I also love to cook.
I am also a lover of fad, crazy business ideas. I keep letting them convince me I will not only save all my money by giving this company my money, but it will also change my life completely for the better. Graze box was the latest thing that took over my life, until I had 10 unopened boxes and about 12 extra unwanted packets from previous deliveries. However, the time has come for me to waste my money on something new! Hello Fresh!

This is a delivery service, like graze box, that prepares you food that you have little to no say in and delivers it to your door step. Unlike graze box though, hello fresh is meals, not snacks. Sending you 3 or 5 days worth of dinners for you to cook and enjoy.
OK, so after sometime pondering over how this would improve my life, the health factor kicked in, I told myself that with them choose healthier meals for me I will naturally get into the habit of eating well at home plus the fact I over buy when food shopping and I hate throwing out wastage. I also got a £25 off my first order so that definitely helped sway my decision.
One of my big problems when ordering, you can only order meals for 2, 3 or 4 people. So, what? Does this website discriminate against single people? Do they not believe single people, or people who simply live alone will want to try this? I felt quite disheartened by this because, as I said earlier, one of the main reasons for purchasing this service was to eliminate how much food I waste. After assurances from people who has purchased this previously that the food does keep long enough for you to cook two meals out of it I decided to trust my friends and sign up anyway.
The website isn't perfect and one of the biggest problems at the check out is it shows your order, displays your discount but once you purchase everything it doesn't show you how much you paid and you are given no receipt but seeing as the checkout displays and acknowledged my discount I thought nothing of it. Luckily however, I check my bank account every day online and three days later noticed that the full amount had be taken out. It was safe to say I was livid and worried about how to get my money back. I messaged Hello Fresh on their Facebook and Twitter page, it took them 24 hours but both profiles replied to me, apologised and refunded me the £25 discount. This really upset me, because the message was a generic, cheery, felt like a very insincere apology and seeing as this was my first time ordering, to simply just have the money they TOOK from me didn't feel like a very good customer service move. Graze box once messed up and didn't send me 3/5 boxes in a row for whatever reason. They messaged me back every day I messaged and every day compensated me, in the end I got a total of 10 boxes for the price of 5 and a very sincere and apologetic team. I was really messed around but I knew it wasn't their fault (turns out they had changed currier services and I was in the guinea pig area) and I felt incredibly looked after. I did not with Hello Fresh.
After all of this I was not looking forward to my box anymore. I wanted to cancel it all but it was too late. The important thing was, I was getting my money back (eventually) and I shouldn't let it ruin something I genuinely could enjoy.
Unfortunately, Hello Fresh also has a difficult delivery slot where it can only deliver between 9-5pm on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. So most people would have to take a day off to accept this parcel. Hello Fresh later told me that I could leave instructions for them to leave it somewhere as it will last unto 30 hours without being refrigerated but upon looking at that, the instructions can only be given in a maximum of 25 characters. Which is next to impossible and some people don't even have that option at all.
So, on this first delivery, I had arranged to take the day off and the package arrived promptly at 9:05am. I have to admit as soon as the package was in my hands I forgot all my gripes and uncertainty about the company as I was so excited to see what was in the box, so much so I started ripping the box open before even setting up my camera! oops.
The video below is me completing unboxing the Hello Fresh delivery. As you can see its full to the brim of fresh and tasty food. I was pleasantly surprised to see the tinned goods were organic and there was a leaflet informing me of where all the food came from, as an independent business owner, i think its important to look after everyone working hard for a living and it gave me a lot of peace of mine to see Hello Fresh were doing just that.
The meat and dairy products were all very well chilled and protected and even though I had ordered the larger meal plan, I was still shocked to see just how much was in there! I had to empty the entire box until I found the recipe cards, to the point I was starting to worry that they had forgotten them, but seeing the pictures of all the delicious food got me excited and I couldnt wait to try them all.
They say if you get a fish dish that you should eat that first and I was completely fine with that. Salmon is my favourite and this one I was looking forward to the most at the time. As it was my first ever meal with Hello Fresh I have to admit, I did struggle, I just couldn't get over the simplicity of the concept. Everything (except the herbs) were pre-measured, so I just had to open the bag of potatoes and cook them, empty the spinach and cook that. I kept double checking the ingredient list on the back of the recipe card. In the end I stopped stressing, followed the directions to the letter and the picture on the right is the result of my cooking. I wasn't excepting this to be mind blowing, I cook salmon and spinach a lot and I know I like it and I know what it tastes like. However, to my surprise, I was blown away. I don't know if it was the quality of the food, the way the card instructs you to cook it or just me not expecting much from it BUT it tasted like it was something cooked in a very good restaurant (if I do say so myself!) I finished the plate and couldn't wait to experience what the rest of the week had in store.
This was a meal I have to admit, I was not really looking forward to. I noticed on the recipe card it said it was spicy and I can not handle spicy food of any kind. My dad finds it hilarious. One of the plus points of all this food being fresh this day was I could in fact just leave the paste out that held the spice. Worrying it would then be flavourless was unfounded. It was the most beautiful thing I have tasted in a while and I think was actually my favourite meal over the five days.
We tried to pace the meals out throughout the five days so we would have a tasty meal and then a meal we weren't looking forward as much. This was another meal I just wasn't looking forward to. Not because I didn't like the ingredients, but more because it seemed boring. It seems like a simple roast you would order from a pub that does nothing for you. Once again Hello Fresh probed me wrong, this was probably my second favourite dish and I discovered I LOVE lentils.
This was the first meal that didn't fulfil me unfortunately. Although it tasted lovely it was the lowest calorie based meal at only 400 calories and I just did not feel full after this.
The final meal! I was so sad to cook this knowing that this experience would be over soon. I don't know if it was a bad batch or the simple fact that it was five days after receiving the box and I didn't chill the herbs, but this was the first time I encountered spoilt food. Luckily though, it was only the fresh coriander which wasn't an essential part of the meal. This was delicious however far too spicy for my liking, and we only used half the spicy paste!

Let me sum it up
To be short (after the longest review ever.) This service, distressed my life A LOT, saved me time and money and the food on a whole was incredibly good quality and very tasty. I have subscribed to more boxes to try out more recipes and I simply can not wait.
